JC Penney Breakfast Club

I just saw this commerical on TV and had to look it up on YouTube. JC Penney using Breakfast Club to market back to school clothes. Part of me is like "How cute and clever." But who are they marketing this to? Teens wouldn't get the reference, would they? Is this for parents who grew up in the eighties and now have teen kids? I'm starting to feel old!

Also, it weirdly looks just like the original school in the movie. I wonder if they filmed it in the same place or just found a lookalike...

I had the very same thoughts when I saw the commercial. Dunno what they were thinking.

I think they may be targeting the kids too. It seems that the 8os are popular with teens, no? Maybe I am just fooling myself into thinking I am hip to what is cool. LOL! Also, I think that most teens want to wear what they think is cool, not what their parents like. Ha, ha! I think that it is clever marketing to get the teens to like the products (tip your hat to an 80s movie, but update it with a new clothes and modernize the theme song), but yet attracts the parents because it is reminiscent of their youth.

I thought the same thing. They much be marketing to the parents to get them to drag the kids into JC Penny's. I don't think my kids know The Breakfast Club. Good commercial though I was hooked in 2 seconds.
