William Gibson

I got to meet one of my favorite authors of all time last night. William Gibson, godfather of cyberpunk and the guy who coined the phrase “cyberspace” in his book Neuromancer, did a reading/q&a at B&N in Union Square last night. There were a TON of people there, of course, and so I had to stand in the back. Then I waited in a ridiculously long line for an autograph of his latest book, Spook Country. Still, it was worth it to meet the master, even if only for a second. I told him I was an author too and that he was a great inspiration to me. I felt really cheesy telling him that, but oh well. He wished me good luck. Of course, I fell short in letting him know that I write cyberpunk romance. I wonder what he would have thought of that... I guess I was a little afraid he'd sneer and I didn't want to lose respect for him, lol.

You know, I can’t think of any other living authors I would have waited in line an hour to get an autograph from… Except Bret Easton Ellis. He would be cool to meet.

I can’t believe my Internet/cable is STILL down. It’s been a week now. How frustrating. I’m now going to have to have a technician come out on Friday to look at it. Which means two more days without Internet at home. And no WoW. Booo!!! And I just got my elite flying mount, too!! (Yes, I saved up the 5,000 gold and didn’t resort to a goldfarmer. And yes, I’m working on the Netherdrake quests, too.)

We’re so connected these days with the Internet. I realize this more in its absence. Like, something random will pop into my head and I’ll instantly move to look it up online and then realize I can’t. It’s almost like an extension of my brain. You can find out seemingly anything! I don’t know how people survived without it, I really don’t. I do read a lot more. Read a 660 page book in a week, which is unheard of for me. Though it was a good book – The Other Boleyn Sister. If you haven’t read it, I highly recommend it.

Hello, Marianne! I tried to send you an email, but was having system issues. I just finished reading Moongazer & all I can say is WOW! I loved it! I'm now going to have look more into the Shomi line.

I'm an aspiring writer & I'm working on a paranormal series. Have no idea where it'll go & what'll happen with it. I'm hoping I can find it a happy home when it's ready to leave the nest. :)

I'd like to put your blog on my links. Is that okay? Hope you get internet soon at home. My ex was really into WoW, so I can understand your frustration.

So...I want to know if your going to give money to William Gibson for using his molly (sally shears, molly mirrors) character?

Actually I don't use his character in Razor Girl. My character's father is obsessed with Gibson and Neuromancer so he gives his daughter similar enhancements to try to recreate her abilties for the apocalypse. However, Molly Anderson's personality is vastly different than Molly Millions', the girl she's supposed to live up to - which causes problems for her in her struggle to survive.

I do hope that when people read this they see it as a homage to Gibson and go and check out his book if they haven't read it already. Such a wonderful novel!
